A LARGE FIRE GILT BRONZE AVALOKITESHVARA, MING
China, 1368-1644. The Boshisattva is seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base holding vase and willow stem in her hands. He wears an elaborate and embellished tiara, earrings, jewelry, a dear’s fur and fine garment with meticulously incised floral borders.

Provenance: From the collection of Alexander Popov in Novi Sad, Kingdom of Serbia, acquired between 1900-1920.
Condition: Good condition with traces of use and wear as expected on a bronze of this age. Old replacements to tip of scepter and right finial segment of tiara. Lower section of left plait is missing. Some inlaid gemstones are lost. The small lotus bases on top of the springing leaves situated at each side of the base once held acolytes now missing. Unsealed. Fine natural patina!

The statue is made in two separate parts, the figure and the base. The lower end of the border shows an unusual, finely incised border. Note the fine detail work applied to the head of the deer and especially the inlaid rock crystal ‘teardrops’ and coral beads.

明代銅鎏金楊枝觀音坐蓮像
中國, 1368-1644。觀音菩薩結珈趺坐于雙層蓮座上，手托淨瓶。右臂高舉當胸，拇指與中指並捻持楊枝。下半身內著高腰長裙，裙緣垂地，具有超凡脫俗與高雅聖潔的崇高豐姿。

來源：塞爾維亞 諾維薩Alexander Popov收藏，購於1900-1920年間。
品相：良好品相，相對其年代所有的使用痕跡及磨損， 楊枝頂端與花冠右邊裝飾有舊時修補，左辦下部缺失，一些鑲嵌的寶石有缺損，蓮座的蓮葉上左邊部分丟失。未密封。自然包漿良好。
