A ROARING QILIN, EARLY MING DYNASTY
China, 14th-15th century. The mythical beast well cast and finely detailed with head raised as it opens its mouth in a warning roar exposing the teeth and tongue, with long whiskers, bulging eyes and a single horn set between laid-back ears, the haunches with flames, the back picked out with a serrated spine.
Provenance: Swiss private collection.
Condition: Fine condition with the iron showing a typical russet patina and slight corrosion, some casting flaws, minor dents and losses.
