A SOAPSTONE STATUE OF JAMBHALA, QING
China, 18th-19th century. Elaborately carved and incised depiction of Jambhala, the god of wealth, seated, holding a jewel in his right and a mongoose in his left while wearing a serpent as necklace, surrounded by wafting heavenly bands.

Provenance: From a private collection of Buddhist sculptures and Thangka.
Condition: The cold painting and gilding are original and show significant wear. The soapstone itself has partially acquired a dark patina. There are some natural fissures and flaws to the stone. The base shows two old drillings where the statue was once attached to a base that is now missing. There are some minimal nibbles here and there.

Note the lobed tiara with its fine incisions below the gilding, the high chignon and the prominent earrings below the elongated earlobes. Finally, the masterful execution of the dhoti with its many convolutions.

中國，十八至十九世紀。 贊巴拉右手吃佛教法寶，左手貓鼬，身披飄帶，頸部圍繞著一條蛇作爲項鏈。

品相：原始冷繪與鎏金磨損嚴重，皂石本身局部有黑色包漿，有一些天然小細縫和瑕疵。從底部來看，此造像曾經有過一個底座，現已流失。局部有輕微磕損。
