Pendule, genannt „aux Maréchaux“
Height: 52 cm.
Width: 61 cm.
Depth: 14 cm.
Dial signed "Drouot à Paris".
On pressed spherical feet the standing marble base with chased Empire ornaments and tondi, on it the burnished figure as an allegory of literature and lektura. Between them an ormolu relief with two putti in a landscape. White enamelled dial with Roman hours and staff indices for minutes and blue calendar indications. Two keys available. Sawn gilded hands for hours and minutes and a blued calendar hand. Back glazed bezel with strike on bell. One pendulum present. According to the fact that many marshals received such a clock as a gift from Napoleon, this pendulum form is called "aux Maréchaux". The model was made by Daguerre, probably around 1785, by the bronzier François Rémond (c. 1747-1812). The figures were originally designed by Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809).
