SOCIAL FAMILY MEETING IN AN INTERIOR ROOM WITH OPEN WINDOWS
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
66 x 82 cm.
Monogrammed "M.B." at lower right. Verso on frame of old stickers with naming of the artist and dates of his life.
The assembled society in a high hall with a hanging bluish curtain gathered on the ceiling to the right, a tiled floor, a large round-arched gate leading outside in the background and a high window with slugs on the left, which is opened in the middle part. In front of the window, sitting on a chair, the landlord, in a long reddish robe with floral patterns, wearing a headdress and smoking a long thin pipe. The male visitors in elegant clothes with wig, the ladies in long dresses with white bonnet as headgear. They almost all look out of the picture with their dark eyes. One of the men in a green jacket seems to be pushing a small brown dog aside with his foot. On the left a small musician playing his violin. Behind it a large screen, which is partly shaded. On the right side of the picture, on a higher pedestal, the white sculpture of a putto. The light falls from the left through the window into the room, illuminating the standing family.
