VIEW OF VENICE
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
78 x 104 cm.
Signed "C. Grubacs" at lower right.
In gilded frame.
Enclosed in copy an expertise by Dario Succi, n. J., who describes the present painting as an outstanding example of the painter's complete works.
View over the calmly flowing Grand Canal with numerous boats and gondolas decorated with figures, in the warm light of the setting sun. At the quay promenade at the left side, populated with numerous figures, the recognizable Doge's Palace and behind it the domes of St. Mark's Cathedral. Also recognizable is the big Campanile. But some building elements are completely missing, as for example the Column of St. Mark and St. George, while other buildings are the result of fantasy and have been newly inserted. Also imaginary the bank side on the right with buildings. Imaginative representation under a high horizon in the warm sky light, which changes from yellow-orange to blue and is reflected in the water. (1220681) (4) (18)
