Y A tiger skin rug, Panthera tigris, circa 1941-1945, almost certainly Indian and by Van Ingen & Van Ingen, Mysore, full head mount, with green felt trim and hessian backing, the backing with serial number 29458 and faint stencil marks for the taxidermists, approximately 261cm (nose-to-tail), 210cm wide (front paw to front paw) The presence of the five digit serial number is something of a trademark of the firm. In Pat Morris, Van Ingen & Van Ingen, page 106 we can see that the skin would date from circa 1941-1945. Our consultant informs us further that this skin would more precisely date from 19.6.1942.
