A cylinder seal carved in mottled brecciated marble with rounded top; the sidewall with intaglio frieze depicting a structure with two rooms, to the left a robed figure holds up a kid or goat above a crouching animal while a second robed figure approaches with arms extended; to the right a goat rests in a cubicle with roof joists above, starburst above the rump; the rounded top with incised spiral and the underside with a group of seven pellets; accompanied by two museum-quality impressions. 11.8 grams, 32mm (1 1/4"). From an important Mayfair collection, 1970-1999; thence by descent.
