A polychrome painting depicting baby Krishna and Varaha, the avatar of Vishnu in anthropomorphic form with boar's head; the baby Krishna is depicted crawling in two of the scenes, on the third he is being held by Varaha emerging from the earth after defeating the demons in a battle; to the right Varaha is standing beneath the balcony of a king, possibly king Hiranyaksha warning Varaha not to touch the earth; four lines of Sanskrit text above. 28 grams, 24 x 18.5cm (9 1/2 x 7 1/4"). From the Sidhu family collection; previously the property of the current owner’s late grandfather, chief scoutmaster for Kenya. The vendor writes 'The painting is from my grandfather, who has recently passed away. He was a prominent figure being chief scoutmaster for Kenya, migrating there from India in the 1940s, where he became charter president for the Lions club, all the art he purchased was in this time as he would travel back to his home village of Mohi, Punjab every year. My grandfather was headteacher all his life in Kenya, he has met the Queen on several occasions and was commended for his contribution to the scouts.'
