An English wool and silk needlework band sampler, late 17th/early 18th century, embroidered in coloured threads on a natural linen ground, with two bands of foliage above a central garden scene with figures and a flowering tree, above bands of alphabet and a Biblical verse and a lower edge comprised of flame-stitches, framed and glazed, 53.5 x 30cm overall A comparable example dated to the 17th century is in the collection of the Cooper Hewitt Museum, 2003-14-4.
