A George II cream painted and needlework inset fire screen, mid 18th century, the rectangular floral needlework panel within a moulded frame surmounted by a pierced C-scroll carved cresting and flambeau finials, on moulded scroll feet, 91.5cm high, 46.5cm wide, 30cm deep Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use old splits and chips. some small old losses. The frame requires sympathetic cleaning. Some wear, surface crazing and loss to the painted surface. It is difficult to conclude of the paint surface is original. It may be later or later refreshed but has been applied for a considerabel period judging by the appearance and wear. The needlework panel is of the period and with some later repairs and some losses (see images) There or two or three significant tears to towards the centre of the panel. If restored/ relined there do not look too be too many areas of loss caused by the tears. There is fading, discoloration and dirt to the needlework panel. The lining to the reverse of the panel was likely later and is now almost entirely lost/ torn away apart from that which remains at the edges held in place by metal studs. The brass/ metal studs to the edges of the needlework section on both sides may be later associated and are untidily placed in areas. The structure overall is solid and the screen stands firmly. No obvious significant breaks or repairs visible to the timber frame Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
