Prosper Lecourtier (French, 1855-1924), a patinated bronze model of a spaniel chasing a bird, on a naturalistically modelled oval socle, inscribed LECOURTIER to the maquette, the underside filled, 14cm high, 20cm long Provenance: British Private Collection A pupil of famous animalier sculptor Fremiet (note the sculpture of the washing cat presented in this auction), Lecourtier is best known for his sensitively modelled dogs. Lecourtier received several medals exhibiting at the Salon during the latter part of the 19th Century, and was awarded a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900.
