A George II mahogany chest of drawers, circa 1750, incorporating a brushing slide, 75cm high, 87cm wide, 54cm deep Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. old chips and splits. some old repairs some losses. Drawer handles appear original. The locks are later 18th century steel replacements. The original 'cut outs' for the locks were larger than the current locks are. Lacking key. The lock escutcheons are associated period examples as the shadows and small holes from the originals can be seen adjacent. Some fading overall and some surface water marks to the top. Sympathetic wax polishing with bring the surface to a more presentable and pleasing appearance. Solid oak drawer linings and rear panels. Some division between the elements of the floors of the drawer linings due to shrinkage/ minor movement. The main element of the brushing slide is well constructed of an attractive cut of oak aand the central panels appear to incorporate a fine burr. The knob handles to the slide are probably later 18th or early 19th century examples. Som relatively minor evidence of old worm to the underside of the chest mainly. Very littl eor none is visibel elsewhere. Some later small nails used to secure elements of feet. Some small later blocks used to support feet from beneath.
