After Jean-Antoine Houdon (French, 1741-1828), a sculpted white marble bust of Louise Brongniart, late 19th century, portrayed with the hair tied and gazing to dexter, 46cm high overall including waisted circular socle The present bust is inspired by the circa 1777 terracotta bust of Brongniart in the collection of the Louvre, where the girl is accompanied by the portrait of her brother. Various other variations on Houdon's portrait are known including the version with the more elaborate headdress at the Metropolitan Museum, New York, Acc. No. 14.40.670. Another example after Houdon is in the collection of the Getty Museum, Los Angeles (85.SA.220).
