A PORCELAIN COBALT AND GILT VASE, P. PEYROCHE AND A. NICAUD, MID-19TH CENTURY of squated baluster form, with two geometric handles, on the recto a richly gilded cartouche a scene of a man dressed in a petticoat in a garden scene holding a bouquet of flower, a lion statue is to the left of him below the lion a crest, two laurel wreaths flank either side of the cartouche, on verso in a cartouche a gilt bouquet of wildflowers is centered, each handle features a geometric pattern of circles tapering off towards the base, the neck features a similar circular motif, a continuous linear pattern wraps the base all on a square plinth, against a deep cobalt ground, marked J'omoun (mori) in gilt underglaze, signed P. Peyroche and A. Nicaud in gold gilt underglaze, on interior of plinth; overall height: 46 cm (18 1/8 in.) CONDITION In age-appropriate condition, minor rubbing to the cobalt and gilt, most notably around the rim of the vase, handles, corners of plinth and laurel wreath, resulting in loss of paint, uneven layer of paint around the edges of the cartouches and handles. Inspection under UV shows no apparent signs of restoration. N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale.
