A shibuichi-nuri (simulated shibuichi) lacquer four-case inro By Kanshosai Toshi (Toyo III), 19th century The oval rectangular body with a shibuichi-nuri ground and lacquered with a shishiguchi dancer performing acrobatically, from the Noh play 'Shakkyo', the reverse with a peony lacquered in similar style, in gold and coloured takamaki-e, the interior of matt grey lacquer; signed Toshi with a kao. 8.2cm (3¼in) high.
