A gold-lacquer rounded rectangular ryoshibako (document box) and cover Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century The inrobuta (flush-fitting lid) with a kinji ground decorated in shades of gold takamaki-e with stalks of overlapping, furled taro leaves, with highlights of kirikane on the veins, the design continuing over the lid and over the front side of the box, beneath a gold-lacquer sixteen-petalled kikumon (chrysanthemum crest) appearing prominently on the lid, the interior and underside of rich nashiji and the rims mounted with silver, unsigned; with a wood storage box. 14.5cm x 26cm x 21cm (5¾in x 10¼in x 8¼in).
