A gold lacquer kobako (small box) and cover Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji (1868-1912) era, 19th century Modelled in the form of two overlapping fans decorated in gold and slight-coloured takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with embellishments of kirikane and shell depicting flowering irises on one fan and stylised tendrils of chrysanthemums on the gunbai-shaped fan, the interior and underside of rich nashiji, the sides of the box of kinji; unsigned. 3.7cm x 11.7cm (1½in x 4 5/8in).
