A FAMILLE ROSE ‘SHOULAO AND ATTENDANT’ DISH, QING DYNASTY
China, 18th century. The everted sides rising from a flat base to a foliate rim. The interior depicting a scene in bright colors with Shoulao holding a peach from the Garden of Immortality and laughing, his attendant carrying a basket, both standing below a blossoming peach tree bearing fruits, a rock to the right, bordered by auspicious symbols and chrysanthemums.
Provenance: From an old English private collection. By repute acquired before 1920, thence by descent in the family. Old collector’s label on the base.
Condition: Good condition with wear and traces of use, fritting to rim, some glaze flaking, a small chip to foot rim, the colors very crisp.
