A PAIR OF ENAMELED ‘GRASSHOPPER’ PORCELAIN PLATES, QING DYNASTY
China, 18th to 19th century. The plates depict a large katydid perched on top of a chrysanthemum flower amidst various further flowers. The edge lobed and with a gilt rim. A peach mark is found neatly painted in iron red on the bottom center of each plate, and a circle of ten bats around the outer rim.
Provenance: From a private collection, Northern California, USA. Consecutive old collector’s label ‘D36’ and ‘D37’ on the bottom.
Condition: Overall good condition, with some manufacturing flaws, wear to the gilt rims and minor scattered abrasions to enamels. Each plate with a short hairline.
