A BLACK AND GOLD LACQUERED TRAY WITH TURTLES, 1900sJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912) to early Taisho period (1912-1926)The square tray with rounded edges and a black lacquer ground, executed in gold and silver takamaki-e and hiramaki-e as well as kirigane with a wave pattern surmounted by scattered turtles embellishes with mother-of-pearl inlays. The rim decorated in gold lacquer, the underside with nashiji.SIZE 29 x 29 x 3.5 cmCondition: Good condition with some wear to the lacquer, few chips along the rim and scratches to the underside.
