Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Ca. 323-27 BC A necklace composed of garnet beads and gold tubes formed with rope-like incised decoration, the necklace has been formed to a high standard, the garnet beads striking and vibrant. After Alexander conquered the Persian empire and seized its fantastically rich treasures, vast quantities of gold passed into circulation and the appetite for intricate gold and gem-set jewellery exploded. The item has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements. For similar style with garnet beads see: The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 558-1897. Size: L:32mm / W:25mm ; 32.2g Provenance: Property of a private London collector, acquired pre 2000.
