反瓷，亦称“生瓷”，为素胎生烧而成，始于明代万历时期的景德镇窑，在清代同治、光绪年间此类文房用反瓷之器盛行。《饮流斋说瓷》记载：“笔筒雕瓷者辄喜仿象牙竹木之釉，所雕花以竹林七贤、东坡赤壁、垂杨系马之类为多”，本品便是垂杨系马之一例。所雕二骏马一俯首寻食，一拔足将行，各有动态，而山石、垂柳、小草均雕刻细致传神，展现了一幕早春之景。清末国势艰辛，此题材的频频出现表现了人们对太平盛世的向往和国有贤臣良驹的希冀之情。
