**Originally Listed At $1200** Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An intriguing figural post that is hand-carved from chocolate-hued wood and surmounted with a standing figure. The anthropomorphic effigy is of a highly stylized form, bearing attenuated legs and lengthy arms with hands held atop the chest, and the gently sloped shoulders are accented with a beaded necklace draped atop the clavicle. The enlarged head features a triangular visage with almond-shaped eyes, prominent nasolabial folds, tab-shaped ears, and a grinning mouth, all beneath a minimalist rectangular cap. The post atop which the figure stands bears a triangular profile that gently tapers to a blunted bottom point. Woven textile wrappings are visible on one area of the obverse, suggesting that this post was a funerary marker or perhaps a burial offering left with a deceased individual.
