**Originally Listed At $700** Western Europe, probably England or France, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A gorgeous and wearable ring constructed from a 57.14% gold body and a hand-carved red jasper intaglio featuring the bust of a prominent man. The shank splits in the middle beneath the setting, and the setting itself exhibits an ovoid bezel flanked with a pair of chevron-shaped fins. The opaque, crimson-hued jasper intaglio bears the image of a well-dressed, left-facing man - perhaps an ancient Roman emperor - who has a large eye, a sizable nose, and gaunt cheeks beneath a finely incised coiffure. A stylish example of Neoclassical artistry! Minor abrasions to setting and intaglio, with very light earthen deposits beneath setting and intaglio, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina to gold setting, and great preservation to figural details on intaglio.
