Silk with multi-colored silk threads, backside lined with silk. China, around 1900

This very long, green background silk embroidery shows satin stitch as well as meticulous Peking knot stitch, which is also known as the forbidden stitch. The panel shows nature scenery with various fruits such as pomegranates and peaches. We also see birds of paradise and a butterfly amidst the dense and colorful floral surrounding.

Shape: Rectangular, horizontal panel
Dimensions: 430 x 53 cm
Condition: Good condition with only minor wear and few open stitches or loose threads. The backside lining is rather worn with small holes and tears.
