Silk with multi-colored silk and gold brocade threads, pierced, woven application borders, inside with silk lining, three fabric buttons and loops at the front. China, around 1900

This midnight blue silk Lady’s robe shows vivid embroidery decoration in rich colors, standing out prominently against the dark background. The embroideries depict floral baskets as well as smaller floral and vegetal shapes. The hems at the lower part, collar and sleeves are featuring a broad, floral band embroidered in blue hues and are lined with a pierced, woven application border. Light silk bands decorated with birds of paradise surrounded by gold brocade threads round off the sleeves.
