A large thinly potted Chinese porcelain bowl that has been richly decorated with well-painted butterflies and roses. The four panels on the cavetto are decorated with arrangements of large rose blossoms with birds, butterflies and highly stylized bats. The central medallion is of fruit, flowers and a butterfly. This is encircled by gilding and designs of yet more butterflies and flowers with gates leading into the larger panels. The mouth edge is decorated with a band of iron red and gilding. The base is glazed and has a raised unglazed foot ring. MEASUREMENTS 9 5/8” (24.4 cm) diameter x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 3.0 oz (540 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks and the bowl rings like a bell. There is a glaze frit on the mouth rim and there is wear to the iron red and gilt along the mouth. There are glaze spots on the back. A large decorative bowl that has much handwork and attention to detail.
