A colorful, very well painted and shaped Japanese Imari bowl that has been painted by experienced artists. The molded bowl is fluted with a scalloped edge. The designs are taken from fabric with panels of landscapes. The central well is decorated with chrysanthemums and a large central peony flower. The mouth has a gilded rim edge. Gilding has been used extensively throughout. The bowl has a double set of foot rings. The resting foot ring is glazed while an inner foot ring is not. The base is glazed. There are no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 5 3/8” (13.7 cm) diameter x 3 1/8” (7.9 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 6.3 oz (630 g) CONDITION There is a long crack from the rim to above the foot that doesn’t go all the way to the base (see circled areas in photos). It is hidden in the design. There is wear to the gilding on the rim and body and scratches from wear in the central well. There are kiln flaws, such as black spots, bumps, reserve pimples, and roughness on the foot ring. An amazingly painted old bowl with so much age, substance, and richness. A great decorator piece.
