An attractive small Chinese sancia -glazed jar and cover , Tang (618-907), with a potting groove encircling the shoulder and slightly incurved mouth, splashed in amber, green and cream glazes leaving the lower part and foot unglazed, the cover with knop finial similarly glazed, 6.5cm high x 8cm wide Sometimes known as 'apple' jars because of the shape and referred to as 'medicine jars' by W. Watson, Tang and Liao Ceramics , 1984', p. 195, pl. 159.
