A RARE SAMURAI ARMOR SETIron, leather, lacquer, silk, gildingJapan, Edo periodThe almost complete armor set particularly stands out because of the very impressive kabuto, with open tehen no kanamono and three-part lacquered iron plates shikoro with sugake odoshi. The impressive mounting lacquered in red in the shape of a Garuda. The equally impressive facemask menpo with horsehair moustache and made of iron with five lame yodare-kake (throat guards). The shoulder pads, sode, are crafted of six bands connected by fabric bands. The forearm and handguards are crafted of gusoki (chain mail) and the thigh coverings and shin-guards, haidate and sune-ate, are crafted of gusoki with attractive blue fabric. The armor comes with the chest piece, do, which is heavily damaged. The armor is mounted on a mannequin, which is not included.Dimensions: Height, when mounted on the mannequin approx. 200 CMCondition: This set of armor is almost entirely complete and generally in good condition with expected wear to lacquer. The chest piece which comes separately with the armor is heavily damaged with heavy flaking to the lacquer. Provenance: From a Hungarian private collection
