Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Neolithic, ca. 4500 to 500 BCE. A pair of pecked and polished stone adze or axe tools made from a beautiful hardstone with warm tan and beige hues. They are similar in style- sometimes referred to as gouges due to a concave cutting edge which probably assisted with carpentry tasks such as cutting and shaping wood. Both are highly polished with a prominent spine and quadrangular cross sections.
