A hand-carved black basalt adze blade with an upturned tang, a thick midsection, and a downward-sloping blade edge that was perhaps used for utilitarian purposes. Adze blades like this example were typically fastened to a lengthy wooden pole with reeds or leather straps and were used to shape and smooth large pieces of wood.
