Lustrous Chinese nephrite white jade lidded tripod censer. The jade carved in bowl construction, with domed lid, and round open finial. Qilin head creates shoulder pieces whose bosom curls outward connecting further down the vessel to complete the handle grips. Qilin are extraordinarily beautiful creatures, sparkling like gems and adorned in flames. With their scaly bodies and horned heads, they resemble Chinese dragons, but their legs terminate in delicate hooves, rather than the dragon’s vicious paws, and their tails are lion-like instead of serpentine. Whatever their special attraction, they always move gracefully and dazzle the mortals who see them. Tripod footings protrude from the bottom of the censer mating to corresponding grooves located on the hardwood stand. Jadestone is translucent in appearance with a creamy white coloration. The design is well-proportioned, domed lid fitted perfectly.
