A rare Chinese blue and white 'Monkey, Deer, Bee and Magpie' dish, Kangxi, decorated with a deer by a river bank and a monkey up a pine tree disturbing a beehive with a stick, a magpie to one side, within a diaper border with floral panels, the underside with lotus scroll, the base with underglaze blue Ji Jin mark within a double circle, 16cm diameter Provenance: Purchased by the late J.B. da Silva (1918-2003) from Christophe for 85 shillings in January 1960. No receipt but mentioned in collection notes. Monkey, bees, magpie, and deer are combined to convey 'giving great wealth and bestowing a noble title' (jue lu feng hou).
