中原铜雪山大士又名悉达多太子苦行，是释迦牟尼成佛之前苦修的形象。此像面容清癯，瘦骨嶙峋，肋骨清晰可见，然面带圆满自得的笑容。造像右腿横盘，左腿向上支起，两手置于左膝，头部低垂，似在沉思冥想。经佛典记载，悉达多太子在尼连河西岸优楼频陀村外的苦行林中静坐思维，入定修行，用自己的智慧光明，照彻一心本源，每天除了只吃一粒麻与一粒麦来充饥，就是以禅悦为食，最后得到法喜充满。此尊形象刻划生动，将释迦牟尼心身不动、苦行修道的性格特质塑造得淋漓尽致。造像的肢体肌肉线条与袈裟的衣纹表现得极为写实生动，人物神态的塑造惟妙惟肖，仿若真人，充分反映出了苦行的艰难与悉达多太子的坚毅性格。
