A Chinese stained boxwood figure of Guanyin, 17th or 18th century, the graceful figure shown casually seated leaning on a small armrest with lion mask cabriole leg, with gracefully draped robes, the face well carved with inward-looking expression, and the hair dressed in knotted tresses falling over the shoulders, on matching base, overall height including base 25.5cm x 19.5cm widest point x 15.5cm deep, the figure 23cm high Provenance: Purchased by the late J.B. da Silva (1918-2003) at Phillips in 1981. No receipt but itemised in collection notes. Compare with a similar figure sold Christies New York from the collection of R.
