On a rectangular base, the base with two slender legs curved at the sides, ending in a rectangle with a surrounding frieze, supporting the lyre-like body with a folding writing tablet. This unique wooden secretary with maple and walnut veneer by Tibor Lakatos, the surrealistic, symbolic ink painting of the upper part and the interior design by the artist Endre Szász. The front side shows a chessboard floor, which in the lower part, besides the artist's signature, also bears the place and date "Várda, 24 July 1999". Behind it there is a fantastic mountain range. Above it a female head with sun and branches in front of a black background and a keyhole for opening the secretary. Above the representation a thrust.
The magnificently painted interior shows a central open compartment with mirror, above it a large drawer, which is again signed and dated in the middle. On each side of the compartment are four drawers of different sizes, each painted with the head of a woman and an animal. The lower section represents a tree of life with the head of a younger and an older woman. The back of the secretary is also painted with a half figure with headgear, surrounded by branches with leaves and small fruits, and signed and dated again in a checkerboard design. Minimal crack sp.
Note:
Endre Szász was initially a book illustrator. In 1959 he won a gold medal for his work in Leipzig. In the 1970s he lived in Toronto, then in various cities in the USA and Europe. His paintings achieved high prices. He was known for his surrealistic-symbolic style and his astonishing technique, which earned him the reputation as the Paganini of visual art. Here he dedicated himself to painting a piece of furniture. Originally, Endre Szász and Tibor Lakatos planned to create two pieces of furniture with this ink painting, but only this one completely painted piece of furniture came about. (1220661) (18)
