Adriano Bonifazi, 1858 – 1914
YOUNG ELEGANT WOMAN PLAYING
ON A FLAMENCO GUITAR Oil on canvas. Doubled.
84 x 60 cm.
Signed "A Bonifazi" at lower left and dated "Roma 1874".
In magnificent gilt frame.
In an interior with red background the young sitting woman with one leg crossed, concentrated playing a large black-brown guitar. She is wearing a light flower-painted translucent blouse, over it a red wrinkled robe and finally a white silk petticoat with lace, which is visible when the leg is turned over, and a red velvet shoe with buckle. She sits to the right, has black pinned-up hair, in which, in addition to pearls and a pearl necklace, there is a bright flower and a transparent chiffon. Around her neck a large pearl necklace, also around her right wrist and also a precious earring which decorates her face. With her slightly reddened cheeks, slightly opened mouth and lowered gaze, she looks attentively at the strings of the guitar she is plucking. Quality painting in harmonious colours, where the white of the skirt forms a strong contrast to the dark guitar and the reddish cape. Small retouchings. (12213524) (18)
