East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A delightful duo of pottery birds: a duck and a rooster. Both animals stand atop straight legs with wings tucked, all enveloped with liberal remains of white and gray pigments. The duck displays a lengthy neck, a flattened bill, and a pointed tail. Alternatively, the rooster features a prominent crest, a petite beak from which hangs a comb, and long, curved tail feathers. Size of larger (duck): 1.8" W x 5.2" H (4.6 cm x 13.2 cm) Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F.
