AN ARCHAISTIC FIRE-GILT COPPER REPOUSSÉ VESSEL OF AN ELEPHANT WITH CUBChina, style of the Tang dynasty - dating to the late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. The parcel-gilt vessel in the shape of an elephant, standing firmly on its four legs, the head lifted and looking straight ahead, and its long trunk raised, with a lid in the form of its young, surmounting the top. The bodies of both elephants decorated with zoomorphic elements and archaistic patterns.Condition: Good condition with traces of wear and age, rubbing to the gilt, and areas of malachite, azurite, and cuprite encrustations. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent.
