Her father was a chief editor of newspaper and her mother a painter. In 1944, An Ho was introduced to Pu Ru (1896-1963, lot 802) in Nanjing, and became a protégée of Pu Ru, who instructed her in the following seventeen years in literary and philosophical knowledge, calligraphy and classical painting techniques. In the early 1950s, An Ho started to extensively copy old master paintings from the Tang, Song and Yuan dynasty artists. In 1977, the artist moved with her family from Taiwan to the United States. The present painting of misty landscape is an exemplar of both her absorption of the classical aesthetics and her experience of contemporary life, as she said, living in Woodstock, NY had been a remarkable inspiration for her art creation.
