At his 17, he joined the Zhongguo Huaxue Yanjiu Hui (Institute of Chinese Painting) established in 1920, and was tutored by Jin Cheng (1878-1926) and Chen Shizeng (1876-1923). He developed his specialty in the genre of landscape painting, the present lot as an example. He held exhibitions in Japan and taught at Jinghua Art College and National Beiping School of Art in Beijing during the 1930s. One of Wu Xizeng's students is Qi Gong (1912-2005).
