Wu Yefu studied the technique of fingerpainting with Pan Tianshou (1897-1971) at the National Art Academy in Hangzhou in 1948, and thereafter Wu Yefu was considered Pan Tianshou's disciple. In this composition the artist's fingerprints can be seen both in the flower petals and the branches, leaving no doubts to his method. The addition of brilliant blues and greens using the splash ink technique bring a vibrancy to the scene. Wu Yefu was lauded for his fingerpainting in his lifetime and served as the President of the Chinese Fingerpainting Association.
