By 20, he was teaching drawing at the National Academy in Chongqing. In 1948, he relocated permanently to Paris, where he would establish himself as an artist of global significance and become one of the highest grossing Chinese artists of the century. He explored abstract expressionism throughout his long career, in oil paint, and also in prints, as with the current lot.
