The artist first traveled to the United States in 1947, and eventually he became a US citizen in 1964. Chen Chi began returning to China in 1972, and the eventual establishment of museums bearing his name at Jiaotong University in Shanghai and his hometown of Wuxi are a testament to his legacy in his native place.
